Dials, Bezels, Glass and Decals
There are many dial choices and terminology. Below is a simple graphic to assist you in understanding dial components.
Definitions:
- The dial face plate is the main brass sheet where all the dial components are attached. These components include chapter rings, corners, and dial centers, and they can be secured to the plate by screws, rivets, or glue.
- Moon phase disc is the round moving stars and moon. These are attached via a moon post and moon hex nut.
- Chime selector slots are often located by the "3" only or by the "3" and "9". The text varies by the type of movement that you have behind the dial.
- The number of holes in the dial will be driven by the type of movement you have behind the dial. If a chain driven movement the center hand arbor hole is all you will have. If a cable or spring wound movement there are more dial holes for the winding arbors.
